~ A Picture A Day

(A2 WoodCarving : Home)
Taking level up on how to be creative is on my 2D work. A work that i put in a lot of effort. What is creative about the design is , my very first time designing something on wood by carving my design out. Sometimes i realize that you can come out with various type of ideas and creativity in a work. Ideas can pop out very easily and i just love to learn and experience new things. A work with creativity gives a good result at the end of the day!

Synesthesia

What is Synesthesia ? Can it be a form of art and music ? Actually it can be anything. Synesthesia is a sense of impression from sense of a body parts to another. Examples like , some may see a number but they visualize more than just a number like changing them into color. Sounds can be smelled instead of being heard , numbers can be heard instead of being seen. Some see colors as taste or flavor. for example, if you see a yellow color it reminds you of a fruit, banana. The disadvantage of having synesthesia is not being able to focus on what really is happening by being distracted with  the different senses and thoughts is telling you. At time, you may feel confuse, unsure and lost as you cannot feel the actually feeling what the normal may perceive and others may find this type of people strange and weird.

Force Connection Pt 2

Moving on with more example and understanding on Force Connection. I get the idea on how to be more creative by trying to visual and imagine things and combining them.

Have you ever think if our brain is made up clock and machine in it. Having two objects combine and to show how time is really precious to our daily life. Every Minute, Second and hour is important. Sometimes in life, we like to waste time and doing nothing but actually the time that you wasted on can be exchange by doing something productive.

~ Force Connection

(Force Connection : Candle)
(Mr . Brave in armed)

(Mr.Greedy , money that matter the most)

(Mr Sadness and Hardworking)
Force Connection is something new to me , is a way of describing the act of combining 2 different object into something creative. For this exercise, i learnt about adjective and object. I have chosen candles and sketch into different adjectives(feelings) such as Sad, Creative, Hardworking, Brave, Greedy and Passionate. From here i can visual how 2 things combine and express a new message. At the end of the day, it is something interesting and will take note of this values to be part of my leaning progress.

~ Analogical Thinking Pt 2

(Brainstorming/mind mapping)
On Analogical Thinking part 2 , with various ideas all coming from the brainstorming and mind mapping in creative thinking lesson. Analogical Thinking helps us expand our ideas and try to visual things around us. By visual, we can form into something creative examples like a car having a figure of a face smiling. In order to be creative, we have to positive and be free by sketching out our ideas and share with everybody. To be creative there is no right or wrong.

~ Trip To Orchard Library

To have a better understanding on Analogical Thinking, we were told to travel to the Orchard Library to apply the understanding and find/ capture images that describe on lifeless object but has the human characteristic.

(Upper level)

(Lower level around the shelves)

Images that i took that looks like a face of a human with lights or lamp there symbolize an eye.The ladder, shelves can symbolize a nose. These were the things that i manage to see and think of.

~ Analogical Thinking

This week on creative thinking, we were discussing a topic on Analogical thinking. Learning different types of meaning such as Metaphors, Similes and Analogical thinking. Two exercise were give on that day.

(Exercise 1 Ideas)

For exercise 1 , we have to think of an idea from the environment that demonstrated the practice of analogical thinking. We are to differentiate and bringing in the examples of Analogy, Similes and Metaphors.
  • Analogy: A plastic block can be used and design in a game of Jenga.
  • Simile: I define a man is jogging like a turtle.
  • Metaphors: Her voice is my happiness to my life.

(Exercise 2 Ideas)

For exercise 2, we had to identify 3 existing product to discover relationships to other objects and images. I came out with 3 ideas which is :
  • A Bucket and a Glass can be played as a formed of instrument such as mini drum set.
  • Putting a light stick into a plastic transparent bottle to give a better effect and glow.
  • A cutting cupboard and a strap can make into a phone holder or a bag.

~ Mr Bee

So basically, we have to imagine we are in a room and the back window is open. Near the window there is a table with a vase and a fresh rose. A painting of flowers hangs on the opposite wall(whiteboard area) A bee flies into the room but it went straight to the painting and not the rose , Why ?

(brainstorming on the solutions)
  • In terms of being creative, The first reason is maybe the owner might just painted the florals and immediately hangs onto the whiteboard to let it dry therefore, the bee might smells something that attracted the bee to went straight to the painting flowers.
  • Secondly, While the bee was approaching the fresh rose, the bee saw the owner was approaching and scared will get kill thus, the bee went straight to the painting to get camouflage.
  • In terms of logic, if i am a bee, the first attention that will caught my eye is the painting instead of the fresh rose. It is because, the painting is huge and its hanging directly on the whiteboard.

~Solving Problem In A Creative Way

This week on creative thinking, we had to two topics which is on "How to save a kid that stuck inside a big vase and Run chicken run".

(Small Mindmap)

For the the first topic, our group members came out with various type of solution to save the kid. Such as throwing in a rope and ladder. But in a creative way, we decided to do a human chain by climbing up stacking one another. From there, the kid have to step and climb on one another to get back out from the vase.

(The solution)

On topic 2, Our neighbor chicken has an countered our territory but entering inside a small broken hole from the wooden barrier. The solution is we decided to put a coil wire or a figure of a scarecrow to avoid the little soldiers of chicken entering our area. What i had learn is that, there are no right or wrong solution. It can be the straight forward kind and weird funny solutions. At the end of the day we have different types of way and ideas.

~ Waterproof Trench Coat

(Designing the Logo)

(Our Product Name : Trench Coat)

(Why Need Umbrella when you have a waterproof Jacket)

(Poster and Brochure Design)

(Reason and How To Promote)

This week On Creative Thinking, We had to chose 1 idea from the previous brainstorming. After discussing with my team members, we decided to expand our ideas on "Waterproof Trench Coat". Our main objective is to promote and share with public with the design we came out. The Design to us is very useful as we can use it during our emergency time like when you are caught in a rain. Besides that, it can be use as a normal form of jacket. In order to get the attention from the public, We decided to design a brochure, magazine, poster and also invite models for our launch during the roadshow. I can ensure our design will be very useful and showing how to be creative.

~Breaking The Rules

Sometimes being a designer you have to break a rules. In terms of design, we had to follow the basic fundamentals. What if we didnt? What if we change the whole perspective thinking of design and change it to something interesting?
Actually, nobody gonna say or judge that it is wrong. Having a good design comes from breaking the rule. By doing it, We can expand several ideas by design something different that is not suppose to be that way. Here's are 5 designers that inspires me :

Milton Glase

Poster for Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits, 1967
(http://www.miltonglaser.com/the-work/c:posters/444/columbia-records-poster-for-bob-dylans-greatest-hits-1967/)
~ What inspires me about Milton Glaser is how art actually meant to him. On the second article he wrote with a title,"Art Is Whatever" it shows that art can be a formed of anything. From my point of view, he already break the rules. In other words, he stating that there is no such things as right or wrong in arts. By doings this, we can come out with various type of designs and ideas.

STEFAN SAGMEISTER

(http://image.slidesharecdn.com/sagmeisterpresentation102108-121013045502-phpapp02/95/stefan-sagmeister-presentation-san-diego-city-college-sharon-decaro-102108-2-728.jpg?cb=1350104217)

~ Stefan Sagmeister has different ideas and point of view on arts. His works mostly involve mixtures of sexuality with wit and a whiff of the sinister. He is more to D.I.Y type by putting text onto the skin be it the face or the body. To me, he express his thoughts and expressing his feelings by playing with fonts and text.

Chipp Kidd

("Bat-Manga! The Secret History of Batman in Japan)
http://www.howdesign.com/design-creativity/my-best-work/my-best-work-chip-kidd/

~ Chipp Kidd is more to comics design. I like how he change batman into "Bat-Manga" in japans. He totally change the whole concept by breaking the rules. He also explain the terms used for Symmetry. How he actually plays with colors blended well.

Herb Lubalin

 (elegant hand-lettered script )
(announcement of an antiwar poster )
http://creativepro.com/herb-lubalin-and-expressive-typography/
Herb Lubalin is specialist in typography. As you can see her article above, each of them has meaning or symbolize something. The impact of of the message depends upon the beauty in the styling of the words. For the second poster, how she placed the color, tight type, and a very deliberate type alignment fits together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Paul Rand

"Everything Is Design. Everything! - Paul Rand

Paul Rand came up with different idea. Mostly his art , is design in a way with abstract art. Forming a human face by all types of logo he created into abstract design. He illustrate an alphabet into an object to as part of his idea. I find his design is really admiring and interesting in a way.
